Mount Titlis in Switzerland: See it while you can!

From Engelberg, I rode the Rotair for an hour into the mountains to Mount Titlis Station. This was one of the most breathtaking rides I’ve ever taken, from the realm of Hollywood movies to the real world. Observing the snow-covered Alps and lush green Swiss pastures as we floated by, I was mesmerised by the fleeting vistas. Titlis is a teeny, tiny station with a stunning rooftop terrace. What makes this station unique is that it is located in the Urner Alps of Switzerland, the first to launch cable car journeys above 10,000 feet above the ground.

Switzerland Mount Titlis

Located at the highest point between Central Switzerland and Engelberg, Mt. Titlis reveals the best of alpine charm and beauty. The sight of SRK and Kajol’s DDLJ cutout, parked at the venue’s entrance, made me happy as an Indian. The film’s continuous success is darted through this cutout. I was at Mount Titlis for three hours. The first half-hour was spent sitting on the bench, admiring the beautiful snowy mountains.

Switzerland Snow Peaks

I learned that Mount Titlis is also known as Wendenstock or Nollen while on this trip. These names are derived from nearby peaks that are slightly higher than the Titlis. The locations’ original name, however, stems from a 14th-century local farmer Tutilos. Tuttelsberg became Titlisberg, and finally Titlis. Mount Titlis was first mounted in the 17th century. Although, cable cars were not introduced until the early nineteenth century.

The next hour was spent drinking coffee, snapping photos, video calling my family, and taking notes about the place. I spent the third-hour observing individuals while caving to the cool air amidst the glacier peaks. The first cable car ran from Klein to Titlis, and the Swiss government expanded the route to other adjacent locations. Snow-capped peaks surround the entire region, providing unobstructed views of the glaciers covered in ice. The Titlis Cliff Walk in Switzerland was open to the public for the first time in 2012.

This Cliff Walk is Europe’s most famous suspension bridge. A glacier cave with incredible ice sculptures was another highlight of my trip. Tapping sightseeing opportunities around Titlis was one of the most exciting parts of this trip. Travel by Titlis scooter, Trott bike or Mountain bike and explore the pathways on foot. Before you leave the country, be sure to indulge in a typical Swiss cheese or chocolate fondue.
