To welcome a captivating night on 9th December, Ballantine and Cafe Zoe joined hands and curated, a truckload of good times with out of office. Two reasons why I was thrilled to be attending this event; one, Cafe Zoe is an exceptional cafe in Mumbai, modelled out of a deserted factory. Second, I was finally getting a chance to watch Vir Das go LIVE. I have been a regular visitor of Cafe Zoe since 2013, however, this was the first time, encountering an insane comedy night. A venue popular for hosting music gigs, film screenings and book launches was today, hosting a comedy night with Vir Das.
Last I was at Cafe Zoe, I remember it decked up in an unusual Unicorn themed decor. On this Friday, however, Cafe Zoe was shimmering with striking light trails and witty Ballantine placards, leading the guests to a night of laughter storm. Just about perfect to drive you out of that office zone. When I arrived at the venue, I couldn’t help but pose at photo booths before hurrying inside to grab the best seats. On the inside, this snug cafe exhibited the best of its rustic decor through its bricked walls, extensive piping, hanging bulbs and colourful bike rims. The divaricated bar counter starred “Ballantine’s Tokyo,” a cocktail I couldn’t have missed!
Soon after, the room roared with the sounds of claps and whistles as Vir Das arrived on stage with his band. The spunky comedian, eminently famous for his filmy roles in Namastey London, Santa Banta, Shivay, Revolver Rani, Delhi Belly, and Badmaash Company was finally here to make us laugh with his witty puns. I was still crunching on my mini lamb burgers as the big act kicked in with a brief concourse of musical poetry. Following which, Alan Clark, Ballantine’s brand-ambassador took to the stage to introduce Vir Das. Crowds were excited to see him and began to flock near the stage to take pictures with/of him. Vir Das then destroyed us with his comic punches, an act that included a subtle fusion of musical notes. All in a day’s work, this was an incredible “Out of Office,” evening and I can’t wait to watch him perform again.
