While each one of Jetwing Hotels has a unique vibe to it, the one located in Dambulla has splendid lake views to boast about. Nestled in the quiet neighbourhood of Wijaya Kumaratunga Mawatha Yapagama, Jetwing Lake is a luxury hotel that draws visitors to un unmatched splendour. It’s a simple, sophisticated, inviting hotel for multiple reasons. And you will begin to feel the elegant luxury, as soon as, you arrive here. The reception is decked, with a Kingly embodiment of a multicoloured personification with the face of a King engrained on the wall. Likewise, the hospitality is just as incredible. Upon arrival, I was offered a hot towel, along with, a hot cup of cinnamon tea, that instantly revived me from the travel fatigue.
The check-in was prompt and soon after I received my digital room key. Luggage was sent over to the room via the porter service. I was overwhelmed when I first opened the room door and walked into a spacious abode facing a gorgeous landscape. From a ravishing walk-in closet on my left to a room with ample space, is all that I needed to see. In addition, each one of Jetwing Lake room is fitted with an equally large balcony and washroom.
The room and the ensuite washroom have separate doors opening into the lavish balcony. (Guaranteed Phenomenal views) Jetwing Lake has luxurious rooms that are equipped with everything you need to make a perfect vacation. Whether it be, a work desk, a large plasma TV, convenient charging points or tea/coffee making facilities with premium sachets. The walk-in closet has a safe, bathrobes, a well-stocked minibar and an ironing board. In addition, Jetwing Lake room also provides two pairs of real slippers to enhance the guest’s in-hotel movement.
However, what I absolutely loved about this hotel is that insist on recycling and the use of organic products. Therefore, you will find the drinking water in the glass bottles. The privilege extends to the washroom where even the shampoo, conditioner and body lotion are encased in small glass bottles. The toilet paper is made from organic material, and the overall vibe speaks eco-vacation. In particular, I was in love with the king-size square bathtub that faces the lake. You have the choice to pull down the blinds if you would like privacy.
The balcony of my room was far too spacious, as compared to any other hotel balcony I have seen until date. I could literally sit here for hours admiring the beauty of the lake or just brooding over the tranquil beauty of the Dambulla region. Or, Sri Lanka for that matter. My reservation at this hotel was on a half board basis, meaning I had the pleasure to enjoy both the dinner, as well as, the breakfast at The Viewing Gallery. Set amidst a verdant environment, The Viewing Gallery flaunts nature, blended with Sri Lanka’s greatest flavours. Besides, The Viewing Gallery brings to you the freshest produce of Sri Lanka to create an exotic palate. While Sri Lankan flavours are their speciality, prepared with the signature touch of legendary hospitality, they also offer a wide variety of global cuisine in the menu.
At night, they light tiki torches in the open to give this restaurant a rustic feel. In the morning, you have the magnificent lake views to match the sumptuous menu. What can I say about the food, except, it was a grand buffet with the best of the best dishes lined up for the in-house guests to enjoy! From a wide selection of local to international cuisine, to astonishing desserts – Jetwing Lake sure knows how to spoil you for choices. I just ate and ate and ate and left only when I could eat no more. That should say it all. I also ordered a glass of Dry Martini over dinner and oh boy, not only, was it served real quick but was also mega delicious. Just the way, I would like my Martini to be. The Canopy Bar perched under the starlit skies are the ideal setting for an exotic cocktail. In addition, you can also enjoy a signature BBQ, at their outdoor deck, by the poolside, or even dine from the comforting privacy of your own room. Wherever you decide to relish their culinary delicacies, you will be served the best food with the finest of Sri Lankan hospitality.
After a hearty dinner, I retired to my room and slept like a baby for the rest of the night. The morning after, woke me up with yet another surprise. There was a hot air balloon floating over the lake and just the sighting of it, pretty much made my day. Post a lavish breakfast, I set out to explore the pool and the lake area. The pool faces the lake which makes it a joy to swim in. On the other hand, the lakeside flaunts a swing, a wooden bench, and a toppled-over boat to give it that conventional feel. It’s yet another space where you want to sit for hours to either read a book or to simply soak-in what nature has to offer.
I had a fantastic stay and I totally miss staying at Jetwing Lake, and if I ever visit Dambulla again, this is the hotel where I would check-in again. Do try out this property when you are in this region and you will surely return thanking me for recommending it in the first place.
P.S. I stayed at Jetwing Lake as a guest of Sri Lanka Tourism Board, however, the views are my own.
