Get Fit With Smart Apps

Just the other day, after I finished a product shoot, I came back home and marched straight to the kitchen to stir myself a great cup of coffee. It’s then a familiar feeling of nausea hit me, slowing every step I was taking towards the cooking area. Before I knew, both my feet were strangely-glued to the floor and a cold shiver rapidly sprawled through my spine. As luck had it, I was in my hometown at my parent’s residence, so my mother came running to my rescue, as soon as, she sensed something untypical. She helped me to the closest armchair and placed several pillows beneath my head to help me breathe. No matter how old you grow, a mother’s compassion surfaces more rapidly in, the need of the hour such as today! It was only natural for her to call my uncle (who’s a doctor) to diagnose what was not yet a significant problem.

I, on the other hand, began emitting signs of being a millennial, as soon as, I regained control over my senses. Pulling out my iPad from my handbag was my first response to dealing with the problem. Why? Questioned mom in the background. To which I responded casually, “Mom I have a bunch of health Apps installed on my phone, let me see if I could run a preliminary self-diagnosis. It will just take a few minutes, I added. Mom agreed, however, nodding with a discontent.” Without wasting further time, I pulled up the health App that allowed me to measure both my heart beats, as well as, the blood pressure. This was it, soon after, the Health App on my phone detected low BP and all it took was a few simple clicks. Which, is when I breathed a sigh of slow relief, preoccupied with the thought that what would I have done without my smartphone/tablet (which, seemed to be overflowing with care and smart aid at this point?

When your phone turns out to be as smart, as the outer world, you can’t help but admire the revolution that has taken the world by the storm. But a mother, being a mother, rushed to her room, only to return with Dr Morepen’s BP Monitor that she had recently bought from Flipkart. She re-measured my BP, and yes the device returned the same results as the health App on my iPad. Next few minutes were spent ‘scouting’ the internet for “Ghar Ka Nuskhas” and mom feeding me a glass of skimmed milk, her trie and tested remedy. Right remedies, may have saved my day in time but my parent’s growing concern gave me every reason to panic. I could hear them talk to each other, “What if she was travelling, or shooting, or caught up in a situation where we weren’t present?”

To restrain my anxiety, I logged on to the internet at the first chance that I could. I frantically began to search for fitness equipment, although, secretly hoping to find a permanent game changer. Shortly, Google pulled up a series of Smart Wearable results to match my immediate requirement. Amongst all the search results, what instantly caught my attention was the #GetFitWithFlipkart campaign. Pretty cool, that an online portal was out and out driving fitness goals. Once I clicked on the hashtag, the search engine introduced me to a list of amazing write-ups, that spelt urgency to switch to a healthier lifestyle.

I thought to myself, all I need is an App that could stalk me all through day and night. Even though I do have a Health App installed on my phone, I am not in the habit of carrying my phone with me everywhere I go. So, what could be a better alternative? I think the Gods of the internet heard me as I pleaded for a healthier lifestyle and there it was, an Ad by Fitbit that was marketing its smart band with smart features. I was not surprised that this product was listed on Flipkart’s website because this is also where we have shopped for other electronic appliances before. Being an ardent online shopper, this wasn’t my first time with Flipkart. Which, is why there was no hesitance with regards to purchasing the smart wristband capable of recording my daily activities including heart rate, breathing, sleep cycle and everything that would eventually bring about a healthier change.

Trust me, it did! After a month of using the smart wearable band, I have noticed a significant change in my lifestyle. My irregular sleep patterns have now become regular, leading to more daytime activity, which in return has stabilised my overall health. This gives us plenty of reasons to support the Fit India Movement by Flipkart which aims at revolutionising the nation with its Smart Home revolution campaign. A small health issue made me question the entire cycle of my lifestyle choices. But with the digital revolution, mundane tasks are now simplified for the ‘entire’ family.
