On the Southwest coast of Sri Lanka lays a beautiful resort town, Bentota. It’s largely famous for its giant Buddha statue, centuries-old Galapota Temple, Canoe Rock, Sandy Beaches, and gardens of architect Geoffrey Bawa. However, during my Bentota vacation, the best thing that happened to me was my staycation at Taj Bentota Resort & Spa, a luxurious 5-star property lounging leisurely along the Bentota Beach of Coral-rich Paradise Island. It’s a resort where you feel the fresh new twist, riding on a fresh new wave. Perched along the finest beaches of the South West coast, Taj Bentota Resort & Spa delightfully welcomes you to a whole new world of unexperienced luxuries.
Whether you choose to stay indoors and take delight in beholding the blue Indian Ocean or go outdoors to partake in open-air adventures, the fun never ceases. Although, what makes this resort one of the best in Sri Lanka, is its tranquil beach vibe blended with renewed living spaces. From a high energy bar to fine restaurants, to a relaxing spa, each designated space, reflects the true spirit of Sri Lanka. Something that draws in your attention the moment you walk under the high wood ceiling in the lobby to be welcomed by the humble greetings of ‘Ayubowan’, followed by the welcome drink which is either Nelli, the gooseberry or passion fruit nectar, or a refreshing Ceylon iced tea.
After a prompt check-in, I was escorted to my deluxe sea view king bedroom, flooded, with natural tropical sunshine. Draw apart the curtains to walk into your very own patio offering exceptional sea views with cool sea breeze putting your mind to ease. A perfect place for you to unwind privately. The room in itself is a seamless blend of style and comfort. It lives up to its Taj reputation of setting a benchmark for the immaculate state of well-being, service and hospitality.
The in-room features include complimentary hors d’oeuvres, plush bedding, 40″ LCD TV with DVD players on request, Wi-Fi services, a work desk, additional seating area, dual-line telephones with direct international dialling, a walk-in closet, and a chic washroom with an invigorating bathtub. The washroom has premium O2 toiletries, a hairdryer and ample towels. Additional facilities include housekeeping service, twice a day that is once the morning cleaning and second the evening turndown. The walk-in closet is equipped with 100% cotton robes, an iron and an ironing board and a pair of jute slippers. Inside the room, you will also have bedside tables and luggage stand. Wherein, the balcony sports two ergonomically designed cane chairs.
During your stay, you can also use the pool, the sauna and the jacuzzi room, and the fitness centre at no additional cost. The minibar is stocked with a selection of snacks, drinks, chocolate treats and beverages, however, these are chargeable. As for the complimentary offerings, you have fruits, chocolates, and also, a wide selection of premium tea/coffee sachets to choose from. Did I mention bottled water? In the morning, you may request for the newspaper of your choice. The resort also offers 24-hour in-room dining.
This deeply luxurious resort offers an equally lavish and inspired cuisine. While here, I had the pleasure to cherish some amazing breakfast and dinner at their multi-cuisine, pool facing restaurant on the ground floor, that goes by the name, The Palms. This all-day dining restaurant offers Indian, Sri Lankan and classic International delicacies for buffet buffs and an exciting a la carte menu for the adventurous. Brilliant vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu to choose from. Besides, their inspired cuisine in a richly coloured dining room is just as glam as your food preferences.
To unwind, take a stroll in their beautifully landscaped lawns, sunbathe by the private beach, sip a cocktail at the open-air Tease Bar, opt for a rejuvenating Spa therapy or just go swimming in their sizeable palm-fringed pool with fountains. Every corner of this hotel is bound to turn a small miracle into a large one! It’s the best (and the safest) property in Bentota and is best suited for both solo travellers, as well as, families.
P.S. I stayed at Taj Bentota as a guest of Sri Lanka Tourism Board, however, the views are my own.
