Evincing the regal times of Bhopal Estate’s whilom grandeur, Noor-Us-Sabah Palace is now a WelcomHeritage Leisure & Business Hotel with world-class amenities. Although, the history of this palatial architecture can be traced back to the early nineteenth century; when H.H. Hamid Ullah Khan thought of building a Palace for his daughter Abida Sultan. Noor-Us-Sabah means the “Light of Dawn,” and as the name implies, this residential palace bathes in a variety of beaut sunrise colours.
Other than being one of the most significant Royal Residences of Bhopal, Noor-Us-Sabah Palace is also a concrete symbol of the course of Indian Mughal history. Located a few minutes from the Airport, this Royal Palace will first take your breath away with its hilltop lake view location then, surprise you with extraordinary royal hospitality.
The Chauffeur drove up the VIP road in Bhopal before the Palatial metallic-green gates opened to the Royal courtyard. The orchestrated gardens on either side led me to the property’s lavish lobby. Where the first thing that caught my attention was the Royal Vintage Baggi encased in a glass box. I could barely stop praising the horse-driven ‘Royal Carriage’ which, was once the Queen’s favourite carrier. This ancient beauty boasts gold embellishments pressed against wooden carvings, a reminiscence of the bygone era.
Hinting at the ceremonial life of the royal family, this Baggi is where my regal journey began. On the opposite side of the carriage, was the stunning marble staircase shadowed by a series of red pillars. By all means, this sweeping staircase invites you to enter the royal palace and immerse in its luxurious offerings. An offer, you can’t resist!
The reception hallway of Noor-Us-Sabah welcomes you to well-heeled antiquated aesthetics. Well complemented by a waiting lounge, steeped in immense luxury. After all, it’s a Royal Palace! I took a deep breath and let the history unfold before my eyes. With every step I took inside this property, I was introduced to the roots of the Palace’s origin. Right from the elemental beauty to the prompt hospitality, Noor-Us-Sabah is a perfect palace with all the comforts. Undoubtedly, the best staycation in Bhopal, whether you are visiting for leisure or a business trip.
On the ground level, you will find the reception, the lake-view Marble Arch Restaurant, the Royal Hammam, Fitness centre, and an outdoor pool designed to recreate phenomenal city views. The upper story, on the other hand, is concealed behind palace domes and a cornice encircling the palace with grand balustrades.
The first floor opens up to a Nawabi courtyard. However, before I could pave my way towards the long corridor, I noticed yet another treasure locked behind an old door. Situated on the further side of the elevator is a glass door, that allowed me to get a sneak peek at the antiquated stairs that once graced the palace. If only, I could climb them to see where they took me.
Notwithstanding, the regal hallway is decorated with the wall paintings that foretell the tales of this historical wonder. Each painting on this wall talks, if you can listen. Although, the ultimate selectivity began once I stepped inside the Club Junior Suite. Designed to clone traditional royal stay, this Suite featured a lavish fainting couch with chairs weaved in the panache of gold and orange. Draw the curtains and you will be overlooking infinite sky views of the mountainous city of Bhopal.
The Club Junior Suite of Noor-Us-Sabah Palace marks the lost charming traditions of the Royal family of Bhopal. This gracious accommodation has, in fact, meticulously preserved the vintage paraphernalia, consecrated with incredible views of the natural surroundings. From Antique collector’s items soaked in timeless beauty to princely roll-over silk curtains, this Suite is a paradise for lifestyle lovers. Add to that, a walk-in-closet with a digital locker and a spacious en-suite washroom with a large bathtub.
During my stay at WelcomHeritage Noor-Us-Sabah Palace, I had the chance to indulge in authentic Bhopali cuisine. Even though I had the option to order breakfast in the room, I chose to have it at the lake-view Marble Arch restaurant for its marvellous views. Marble Arch may have compact interiors, however, its endearing outdoor seating will melt your heart. So will the scrumptious breakfast options including potato smileys, fish fingers, Mutton Nihari, chicken sausages, a variety of bread, doughnuts, and eggs of your choice.
Insider Tips: The cheese omelette they make is out of this world! (So is the Medu Vada and the veggie pie)
As for the lunch, it was an absolute pleasure to experience the flavours of Bhopali Seekh Kebabs, Kacchhe Gosht Ke Kebab, Bhopali Mutton Biryani, Bhopali Chicken, and Shahi Toast, prepared by the Executive Chef Suman Rakshit. These very-enjoyable delicacies from the kitchen of Zaaiqa restaurant were served to me inside the suite. Zaaiqa is Noor-Us-Sabah’s in-house restaurant specializing in Mughlai and authentic Bhopali cuisine. The lunch concluded with some very delicious desserts including Shahi Toast and Royal Phirni.
For the dinner, I chose to keep it light and ordered from Dynasty, the PAN Asian Diner. What, can I say, except, this restaurant served me the most succulent seafood, I have tasted in Madhya Pradesh. Flavoursome on a level, where you will keep guessing the ingredients while devouring those last delicious saucy bits off the plate.
Apart from the stay and the food, what truly sets Noor-Us-Sabah Palace, apart is its centuries-old Royal Hamam and Hot Spring Bath. Well-preserved for over a century, the Royal Hamam of Noor-Us-Sabah Palace features independent Spa sections for both men and women.
Additionally, a modern age Jacuzzi has been added to the spacious Royal Hamam to add a contemporary touch to a traditional Turkish setup. Essentially this Moroccan-style Royal Hamam is where you can indulge in a lavish deep-tissue massage. Except, the massage techniques are those from the books of royal history. For about an hour, I sat towel-wrapped in the common steam room, that took care of ridding my skin of impurities, while, loosening it at the same time.
After the massage, I decided to take a dip in Noor-Us-Sabah’s infinity pool, its centrepiece commanding magnificent city views. Noor-Us-Sabah’s outdoor swimming pool is to India, what Infinity Pool of Marina Bay Sands is to Singapore. Open to in-house guests, this breathtaking outdoor pool is the ultimate luxurious spot to relax. While you unwind, let the colour-changing skylines mesmerize you with a little organic magic.
All in all, Welcome Heritage Noor-Us-Sabah Palace is a legacy worth discovering. Featuring absolute value for money, this Royal Residence stands true to its name, the light of dawn, evoking the pure essence of Bhopal. For whatever reasons you are visiting Bhopal, this regal property ought to top your staycation list.
