Nageshwar Mahadev Temple in Saputara

Located on the banks of the Saputara Lake, Nageshwar Mahadev is a tiny shrine. Shiva, also known as Nageshwar, the god of snakes, is worshipped in the Nageshwar Mahadev Temple. Among Saputara’s and Gujarat’s oldest Shiva temples, this one exudes a sense of serenity and calm like no other. An influential shrine in this hill station, Nageshwar Temple, is located on the southern tip of Saputara Lake. This Mahadev temple, near the main Chowk, is a must-see for most visitors who come to pray and admire the temple’s architecture and lush landscape.

Visitors to the temple are greeted by Nandi, who is clad in a crimson prayer garment and stands at the entrance. Shiva’s sacred bull is adored as his animal form, as well as his most devoted follower and as his way of conveyance through the universe. Giving delight is represented by the word Nandi, and the Nageshwar Mahadev Temple’s dome ceiling features a carved set of inner circular planes that encircle the statue of Nandi. The Swayambhu statue is also placed in this beautiful temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The temple’s construction is straightforward, and the Sanctorum has a beautiful black granite Shivlinga. The Nandi statue in the temple’s outer hall faces Lord Shiva. Every day, numerous devotees visit this holy location in Saputara, but Mahashivratri, the Hindu festival dedicated to Shiva, sees a massive influx of followers. Every morning and evening, the temple holds an Arti (prayer).
