The naturally landscaped Nuwara Eliya is an enchanting tea city in central Sri Lanka. During my visit to this mountainous city, I stayed at Araliya Green Hills Resort near the Seetha Amman Temple. Located on a hill, this stirring four-star luxury hotel faces Nuwara Eliya Gold course on one side and racecourse on the other. Both these, interesting spots are at a short walking distance from the hotel. However, arriving at this majestic hotel is what revives the true-charm of Nuwara Eliya. At first glance, Araliya Hill Resort reverberates a British era feel with its white-washed architectural style adorned with green sloped roofs. It’s only, when you walk inside, the lavish lobby is when the colonial vibe slowly and gradually metamorphoses into a Sri Lankan conclave.
The lobby of this surreal resort unfurls to a sighting of two sizeable wooden elephants with a distinctive carving. This effect stretches to the reception with a beautifully carved backdrop. The entrance to the waiting lounge is on the other side, where a ‘sumptuously rich’ seating is placed for guests to rest.
This waiting lounge is surrounded by in-house shops that feature the best of best Sri Lankan souvenirs. From Sarees to Tea to Masks, you can shop everything at these shops. The check-in process is prompt, as well! In the meantime, the waitstaff will offer you a warm hand towel and a hot cup of tea to revitalize from a tiresome journey.
The deluxe rooms of Araliya Green Hills are unlike any other. Each room is a cocoon cloaked in absolute luxury and comfort to appease your senses and to spoil you. The well-designed rooms are festooned with every imaginable amenity, including a large bed, work desk, additional seating area, large TV, a walk-in closet with bathrobes and ironing board, luggage desk and tea/coffee facilities. Ensuite washroom, however, is slightly compact but still accommodates a sparkling clean bathtub with ample towels and complimentary toiletries.
During my stay at Araliya Hills Resort, I had a wonderful dinner and breakfast at The Glen fall restaurant, that can accommodate up to 170 guests at one time. At the Glen fall restaurant, you can enjoy a fantastic gourmet selection of Eastern and Western cuisine. To reinvigorate your taste buds, the cuisine is catered to perfection by award-winning chefs. Green Hills knows how to treat your taste buds with a royal treatment. For which, their well-honed chefs whip up all the meals fit for royalty. From fine fusion cuisine to a wide selection of short eats, they serve it all. Additionally, they also have a coffee shop that’s open round the clock. For those who may want to dine in the comfort of their room can take advantage of the 24-hour room service. While here, also take a look at their pool and rooftop bar stocked with a great collection of wine.
On the whole, Araliya Green Hills is a luxurious abode in the lap of Nuwara Eliya. If you are seeking luxurious comforts and optimum pleasure, in this tea city, then this is the resort where you must stay. I found this hotel to be a sheer bliss submerged in comfort and convenience.
P.S. I stayed at Araliya Green Hills as a guest of Sri Lanka Tourism Board, however, the views are my own.
