Get The Best Crab Thali At Malvan Katta

Maharashtrian cuisine tantalizes taste-buds with its delectable selection of lip-smacking delicacies, each bursting with distinct and exciting flavours. From Vada to Missal Pav, Pitla Bhakri to Kokkam and coconut Sol Kadhi, the varied influences of the coastal, central, western and Deccan plateaus are greatly-embraced in Maharashtrian kitchens. Not two recipes are ever the same, yet Maharashtrians proudly present a wide array of ‘appetizing’ dishes to tantalize your palate.

My culinary journey through Mumbai revealed the city’s cuisine to be almost as vibrant as its culture! While most cityscapes are dominated by the impressive structures of hospitality giants, some of Mumbai’s most tantalizing dishes are discovered in the back alleys, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. My personal favorite haunts? Gazalee, Highway Gomtak, Malvani Khalvan and Malvan Katta – all predominantly non-vegetarian, and specializing in the delectable Malvani cuisine that hails from the West coast states of Goa, Maharashtra and South Konkan. The perfect place to find some of India’s most exquisite seafood recipes!

Visiting Malvan Katta, a small but highly renowned family-owned eatery near Udipi Vihar on Aarey Road, I was delighted to discover their unique Coconut-tied Curries. With traditional ingredients, recipes and cooking techniques, these dishes deliver a truly authentic and home-like taste that is sure to surprise even the biggest food-lovers. On my recent visit, I was presented with a scrumptious Crab Thali, served on a steel plate with a bowl of Malvani Crab Curry and Rasam, chapati, rice, salad and a refreshing kokum-infused Sol Kadhi to help cool down the midday heat.

To top it off, I indulged in a crunchy bombil fry (Bombay Duck) fried in coconut and spice batter and some delicious Prawns Sukka – simply divine! Wrapped in an array of tantalizing tastes, Konkani cuisine tantalizes your senses with its unique blend of pungency and sweetness, enhanced by freshly grated coconut. One bite and you’ll be hooked – so why not take a chance and try it? For just INR 200, you’ll be getting a truly sumptuous feast – a real bargain!
