The Corinthians is a ‘distinguished’ property in South Pune markedly built in a unique Greek Egyptian style amidst a lush green setup. Even though the luxurious hotel is customarily utilized for film shootings and by worldwide tourists, there’s one thing in particular, that makes it the favorite hotspot of Pune. Which, is its unique Egyptian architecture and offerings! Legends have it that the ancient Egyptians consumed beer daily and what else could mark the importance of that event than the in-house brewery of the resort which serves the freshest beer in the town.
Which is why, during our stay at the Corinthians, we spent one entire evening in the laps of the 1st Brewhouse, and its outdoor space, Doolally on tap. A conceptual bar that brings together the ‘finest’ array of freshly brewed draft beer right out of a tap and not a bottle! Besides, what’s great about this bar is that it pairs the beers with a view, as long as, you decide to sit outdoors. And you always have the option to move the party indoors because that’s where the real music and dance kicks in!
Personally, we love beer gardens as in our opinion, they add to the utmost relaxation. And with a couple of beer glasses on the table, that joy only multiplies itself. Doolally, at the 1st Brewhouse Pune, allowed us to unfasten the shackles of an enclosed space while we savored the ‘finest’ keg beer in the town. That along with, a photo-perfect landscape overlooking four bronze horses, minimal crowds, prompt service, and exemplary hospitality.
Reigning the microbrewery scene of Pune, 1st Brewhouse of the Corinthians resort is where you will go crazy choosing between the types of cold beer you can drink. A perfect place for you to spend long hours lazying in the comforts of a sunshiny lounger hiding behind the cool shades of a taproom. To steer our beer cravings, we started with our favorite concoction collection featuring Apple Cider, Honey Mead, and an Oatmeal Stout. A beer adventure that further led us to explore the indoor beer tasting like a pro.
So, here we have the Apple Cider, Belgian Witbier, English Bitter, India Pale Ale, Oatmeal Stout, Kimaya Vanilla Porter, and Kimaya Pale Ale. (From right to left) A tasting hosted by Anil Singh, the gracious manager of the 1st Brewhouse. Coming to the tasting, Apple Cider was our first shot at relishing both the cider and the beer in one single brew. What makes this combination extraordinary, is that it combines the Earth’s oldest drink (beer) with a relatively contemporary Cider version of Great Britain. And it tastes deliciously organic!
The Belgian Witbier, or the Flemish White Beer, on the other hand, has a history that can be traced back, to the dominant Hoegaarden bassinet of the extinct Witbier. An evanesce style Belgian craft beer drafted with a ‘fluffy’ lemony finish, letting out layered aromas of pervasive spices and herbal tangs. Wherein the copperish golden English Bitter is what sets the mild brews apart from the Ale beers. The EB had a touch of fruitiness to it, with a certain dryness that makes it taste like a Malt brew.
We once read an article by The Guardian which said, “When ordinary beer wouldn’t survive the journey to India, a new pale ale was born.” And here we were, experiencing a niche variety of Indian and Kimaya Pale Ale, the remodeled version of the 18th-century homogenization of yeast and vinegar. A heavily-strong beer you must ‘definitely’ taste this winter!
Our one-hour tasting session ended with us chugging those last shots of Oatmeal Stout, and Kimaya Vanilla Porter. Stouts are the strongest porters, and Oatmeal Stout and Vanilla Porter are our all-time favorite beers for their rare dark color, intense texture, and the roasted malt flavor. So, if you thought only Vin-de-table could make you swirl and sip, let us tell you that every beer of 1st Brewhouse Pune is worth that extra time. Besides, at the 1st Brewhouse of the Corinthians, sip your craft beer in an Egyptian style, amidst an architectural wonder set on a 25-acre landscaped land dominated by fountains, and manicured gardens.
